I’m still shocked …
A good friend (and Sigma owner) call me early morning and asked me if I checked the photography forums, I was quite busy so I responded no.
He said something about SD1 from Sigma and I thought he was joking at me.
Especially when he mention about 15Mp X3 layers new sensor design from Foveon (Sigma owns Foveon).
Immediately I visited Sigma web site, and then started to jump up and down… LOL
Finally Sigma got serious about producing a Pro grade DSLR camera…
All those years many fans of Foveon unique color detail asking for more mega-pixels and better body, there where few rumors and even CEO Mr Yamaki once said that they will work at a Pro grade body but that was long ago…
So after the announcement of Sd15 (still 4,7Mp x3) even though it was more mature design from previous SD14 (Same sensor 4,7Mp x3), those rumors stopped.
In my dreams I would dare to say that next model would be from 6 to 10 Mp at 1,7 crop or 1,5max.
Now with 15 Mp x3 layers at 1,5 crop, we get a lot more than that. Detail will be so high that A0 size prints will be very easy to do. In fact that new sensor will rival any 30Mp known camera (and any that will come up in the future years).
I’m so happy because Sigma will give to us (old and new users) a new tool that will work with our current lenses and the ones they will develop. And they did big steps there too, especially the last 3 years.
New FLD glass co invented with HOYA already present to few lens designs like 8-16 or 17-50 f2,8.
Foveon is a very promising technology and I’m so glad they get it very serious.
Sad thing we must wait few months to hold it…
